A 28x2 bike tyre is a wide 28 inch tyre often used on trekking bikes, city bikes, e-bikes, touring bikes and some 29 inch bikes. The key compatibility marking is usually ETRTO 50-622: 50 mm approximate width on a 622 mm rim.
What does 28x2 mean?
The inch marking 28x2.00 is useful for searching, but the ETRTO size is the safer fit check. A 50-622 tyre fits a 622 mm bead seat diameter rim, the same diameter family as many 700C and 29 inch tyres. Width and clearance still matter.
Check clearance before you order
Many bikes that accept 700C or 28 inch tyres do not automatically have space for a 2.00 inch tyre. Measure the gap around your current tyre at the fork crown, chainstays, seatstays, mudguards and any rack mounts. Leave room for wheel flex, mud and manufacturing tolerances.
Choose the right tread and protection
For commuting, touring and e-bikes, look for reinforced models such as Marathon, Marathon E-Plus, Big Ben Plus or other tyres with a puncture-protection layer. For faster mixed-surface riding, lighter folding or tubeless-ready models can make sense if your wheels and setup support them.
28x2, 700x50C and 29x2.00
These markings can overlap, but they are not a substitute for checking the full sidewall. Prioritise 50-622, then compare the stated width, tyre casing, pressure range and intended use. If the old tyre has a different ETRTO, match the rim diameter first.
For nearby 622 mm options, use the 700C and 28 inch tyre category to compare narrower road, city, trekking and gravel tyres before moving up to a full 50 mm casing.
